Spartans Picked to Finish Fourth in Big Ten East

**EAST LANSING, Mich.** - Three Michigan State football players earned Preseason All-Big Ten honors on Thursday, July 28, as voted on by conference media. Kenneth Walker III, a consensus All-American running back in 2021, was a unanimous selection while Jayden Reed and Xavier Henderson were named to the second and third teams, respectively. Michigan State was picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten East, behind Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State, in the annual preseason media poll. The Spartans received one first-place vote and finished with 265 points. Walker, who led the FBS in all-purpose yards per game (179.4) and ranked second in the country in rushing yards (1,636) last season, is one of the top returning players in the nation. The junior from Arlington, Tennessee, was a first-team All-Big Ten selection and a Doak Walker Award finalist in 2021. Reed, a junior wide receiver from Kalamazoo, Michigan, emerged as a go-to target for Payton Thorne last season. He caught 51 passes for 1,026 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors. Henderson, a senior safety from Cincinnati, Ohio, is one of the most experienced players on the Spartans' defense. He has started 30 games in his career and has recorded 155 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and six interceptions. The Spartans open the 2022 season on Friday, September 2, against Western Michigan at Spartan Stadium.
